What is a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty, also known as “Liquid Rhinoplasty”, is a treatment for individuals looking to improve the appearance of their nose without undergoing Surgical Rhinoplasty. Liquid Rhinoplasty can modify and improve the shape of the nose by addressing crookedness, refining the nasal tip, and hiding bumps. Non-Surgical Nose Job, however, cannot make the nose smaller and therefore is not for everyone since it can only modify the shape by filling in hollows and depressions.

Which Products Are Used for a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Injectable hyaluronic acid (e.g. Juvederm Voluma, Restylane) and calcium hydroxyapatite (e.g. Radiesse) are preferred for Liquid Rhinoplasty because they are easily molded and shaped when injected into the nose. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally produced by the body and is then metabolized over a period of time. However, if so desired, the hyaluronic acid can be dissolved by Hyaluronidase to return the nose back to its original shape.

Liquid Rhinoplasty Vs Surgical Rhinoplasty

The goal of both of these procedures is to change and improve the appearance of the nose. They each have their advantages, and they should be recognized and considered depending on the preference and priority of each individual.

Procedure: Liquid Rhinoplasty is an in-office procedure which takes approximately 30 minutes to 30 sixty to perform. Topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and once the area is numb, the nose is disinfected and the hyaluronic acid is injected to mold the nose into an ideal shape. Ice is applied immediately after the procedure to minimize swelling. Non-strenuous daily activities can be resumed immediately.

For surgical Rhinoplasty, there is more preparation involved before the surgery due to the anesthesia or sedation administered during the surgery. Individuals should be aware that they may need laboratory tests and other studies before being cleared to have the surgery. The surgery itself can range from a couple hours to several hours depending on the complexity of the surgery and the rest of the day is dedicated to relaxation and recovery accompanied by a responsible adult.

Downtime: Liquid Rhinoplasty has no downtime, and most are able to resume their daily activities immediately with the exception of strenuous exercise and physical exertion. Surgical Rhinoplasty has a longer downtime with more physical restrictions, but results are permanent.

Results: Liquid Rhinoplasty results are instant and chances of bruising and swelling are low. Surgical Rhinoplasty is associated with bruising and swelling and results are seen a few weeks after surgery. Although there is more downtime and recovery associated with Surgical Rhinoplasty, the results last for years whereas a Liquid Rhinoplasty requires repeated treatments to maintain desired results. The frequency of treatments essentially depends on the body’s metabolism rate. In other words, some bodies break down the hyaluronic acid more quickly than others, requiring more frequent touch-ups. Liquid rhinoplasty results typically require retreatment every 9-18 months.

Whether you’re considering a Liquid Rhinoplasty or a Surgical Rhinoplasty, making the decision of which treatment to undergo can be a stressful and overwhelming process.
